Thursday’s Opening Keynote: Jeff Heil
Jeff is a digital learning innovator for the San Diego County Office of Education, an adjunct professor of educational technology for California State University San Marcos, and a Google Certified Innovator and Education Trainer. His mission in life is to spread the love of technology as a tool to transform student learning across the globe. As a frequent conference presenter (CUE & ISTE) and featured speaker (EdTechTeam featured speaker and CUE Rockstar Faculty), he is perpetually striving to transform education in everything that he does. This work was recognized in his selection as the Classroom of the Future Foundation’s Innovative Educator Award for 2015. He spent eight years teaching high school in a residential facility for students impacted by homelessness where he developed his passion for technology integration and educational equity. In 2005, he was selected as a Distinguished Teacher in Residence at California State University, San Marcos where he still works as an adjunct professor of educational technology in the School of Education. Most recently, he has helped facilitate the integration of GAFE, 1:1 Chromebooks, and blended learning in the SDCOE Juvenile Court and Community Schools.
Chris graduated from Indiana University as well as Indiana Wesleyan. He is a Level 2 Google Certified Educator, Google Certified Trainer, and has a certificate in Technology Leadership from the CIESC. As a leader in Educational Technology, Chris was chosen by the DOE to design STEM curriculum for the Indiana Migrant Education Program. He is noted for hishigh energy and engaging presentation styles, as demonstrated by winning Future Ready schools and GAFE Summit demo slams. Chris resides in New Palestine with his wife and two children. He enjoys golf, photography, and collecting sneakers!
Friday’s Opening Keynote: Dr. Jennifer McCormick
About Dr. McCormick
Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Indiana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, is a nationally recognized innovator and leader in education. Over the course of nearly two decades, Dr. McCormick has served at every level of the traditional public education system. She began in the classroom as a special education teacher, then served as a middle school language arts teacher (1996-2004) before becoming principal of Yorktown Elementary School (2004-2007). She was named assistant superintendent of Yorktown Community Schools (2007-2010) before she was elevated to superintendent in 2010.
Dr. McCormick’s work as an education innovator was recognized nationally in 2014 when she was invited to the White House to participate in The National Connected Superintendents Summit. She is the recipient of the Outstanding Contributor to Education Award from the Muncie Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and was named Person of the Year by the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce in 2013.
Dr. McCormick served as secretary of the board for Ivy Tech East Central Region and was appointed as an eLearning Leadership Cadre member by the Indiana Department of Education. She served on the board of the Indiana Association of School Business Officials and was a Delaware County Youth Salutes board member.
